Devaki Bhatta, Head of Biodetection

Devaki is responsible for biological detection applications including biodefence and medical diagnostics. She leads the bioassay development team (working on immunoassay design and implementation, sensor surface-chemistry and microfluidics) and is an experienced technical project manager, having successfully delivered major multi-disciplinary, collaborative R&D contracts for the TSB and MoD.

Devaki holds a BSc (1st class honours) and ARCS in Biochemistry from Imperial College London and a PhD in biotechnology from the Institute of Biotechnology, University of Cambridge; her post-graduate research activities were focussed on the development of novel optical sensors for biological agent detection.

In her spare time Devaki enjoys west-end theatre, stock market trading, organising social events and campaigning on issues relating to civil liberties.

Sam Watts, Business Development and Commercial Officer

Sam is a founding member of Stratophase having completed a PhD in the fabrication techniques used to produce the optical microchip sensors which form the core of Stratophase technology. However, after the formation of Stratophase Sam took an active interested in the commercial development and exploitation of the raft of technologies accessible to Stratophase. Sam initially managing the manufacturing, commercialisation and sales aspects of Stratophase's wavelength conversion division, which was subsequently spun-out into Covesion Ltd.

In his current role as Business Development and Commercial Officer, Sam is responsible for identifying and qualifying key applications for the platform technology, and linking end user requirements to the technical and product development activities. Equally, Sam is responsible for communicating the state-of-the-art and future-vision for Stratophase's technology to the various end user communities, whilst pursuing commercial relationships to maximise the value of Stratophase and its technology.

Sam is a keen skier and motorcyclist.

Greg Emmerson, Chief Technical Officer

As a founding member of Stratophase Greg has been with the company since it’s inception and has been instrumental to its growth. As one of the original inventors Greg is an expert in the principles of Stratophase’s technology. Over the years, Greg's focus has systematically evolved from leading the technology department in the company to his current role of the commercialisation of product development for our target market. He has a PhD in optoelectronics from University of Southampton and comes from a physics / semiconductor fabrication equipment background.

Greg enjoys house renovation and stone crafting in his spare time.
